Lord of The Rings The Fellowship of The Ring

Lord of The Ring The Fellowship of The Ring is book one of J.R.R Tolkiens epic "The Lord of The Rings"

PROLOGUE:
The Lord of the Rings tells of the struggle between good and evil in a land called Middle-Earth. Bilbo Baggins a Hobbit of the Shire, steals a Ring of immense power from a creature called Gollum. (See The Hobbit for details) If this Ring were to fall into the hands of the evil Sauron in Mordor, then Middle-Earth would be doomed.

Book One: The Fellowship of the Ring

Bilbo hosts a party for his 111th birthday, disappears using the Ring of power and goes to live with the Elves at Rivendell. Gandalf, a wizard, persuades Bilbo to leave the Ring in addition to all his possessions to his cousin Frodo. Gandalf later discovers that the Ring was forged by Sauron, an evil sorcerer. Sauron is gaining in power, and once in possession the Ring he would regain all his power.
Sauron has discovered that the Ring is in the Shire and Gandalf tells Frodo that he must flee the Shire and head for Rivendell. Gandalf agree to meet him at Bree. Travelling with Sam Gamgee , Pippin and Merry, they are followed by Sauron's evil Black Riders but manage to reach Bree. At the Inn of The Prancing Pony the meet Strider a Ranger who later reveals himself as Aragorn heir to the throne of Gondor. Aragorn joins the Hobbits on the journey to Rivendell, keeping Frodo alive after he is attacked and wounded by the Black Riders at Amon Sul.

At the council of Elrond, the elf lord of Rivendell, Gandalf tells how he was imprisoned by Saruman who is now an ally of Sauron but managed to escape. Elrond explains that the ring must be destroyed to prevent it getting into the hands of Sauron and because it ultimately perverts all who come in contact with it. This can only be done by casting it into the Crack of Doom in Mordor. Frodo volunteers to take the Ring to Mordor and he is joined by Sam, Gandalf, Aragorn, Boromir of Gondor, Legolas an Elf from Mirkwood, Gimli a Dwarf, Merry and Pippin to form The Fellowship of the Ring.

The Fellowship of the Ring set out for Mordor but their progress is hampered by the agents of the evil one. They are forced to travel through the abandoned Dwarvish Mines of Moria, where they are attacked by evil Orcs. They are on the verge of escape when confronted by a fiery demon called a Balrog. Gandalf saves the company, but is dragged by the Balrog from the bridge to the fiery pit of Khazad-Dum. Devastated by the loss Gandalf company make their way to the safety of Lothlórien, an enchanted wood, and home to the Elfen Queen Galadriel.

Galadriel gives each a valuable present to help them on their quest. They make their way south by boat down the great river Anduin. At Parth Galen, Boromir now perverted by the power of the ring, demands the Ring from Frodo to be used as a weapon against Sauron. The frightened Frodo flees and decides to travel alone to Mordor. Sam insists on joining him.
